What are the rules on final paychecks in Massachusetts?

Generally, under Mass. Ann. ch. 149 § 148, an employer must issue a final paycheck to a terminated employee on the date of discharge. On the other hand, under Mass. Ann. ch. 149 § 148, an employee who quits his or her job is not entitled to a final paycheck until on or before the next regularly scheduled pay date, or if there is no next regularly scheduled pay date, on the following Saturday.
