When is Spousal Support or Alimony Awarded in Iowa?

In awarding spousal support, an Iowa Court may consider: the length of the marriage; the age, physical and emotional health of the parties; the distribution of property; the educational level of each party; the earning capacity of the party seeking maintenance; the feasibility of the party seeking maintenance to be self supporting at a standard of living reasonably comparable to that enjoyed during marriage; the tax consequences of spousal support; any antenuptial agreements of the parties; and, any other factors deemed relevant by the Court. (Iowa Code 598.21A)
