If I Am Injured On The Job Can I Choose The Doctor Who Treats Me?

In Iowa, the employer has the right to choose the doctor capable of treating your type of injury appropriately. If for some reason you are dissatisfied with the chosen doctor, you should discuss alternatives with your employer or the employers` insurance carrier. You do retain the right to be examined by a doctor of your choice if you feel that the permanent rating of disability given for your injury by the employers` doctor is too low. The employer must pay for this secondopinion exam.

In some cases if the benefits are not paid when due, are denied or have an unreasonable delay then the injured worker may be entitled to interest or penalty benefits. Disability benefits are not to exceed 80% of the employee`s gross weekly earnings. This amount is determined by taking into account your gross weekly earnings, number of exemptions and your marital status. The maximum weekly amount for Permanent Partial Disability is $948.00. For Total Temporary Disability, Healing Period, Permanent Total Disability and death benefits the maximum weekly rate is $1031.00.
