Persons, firms or corporations licensed as agents must be appointed by each insurer represented. Appointments must be filed with the Insurance Department using the Wyoming Agent Appointment Form. This form must be submitted in conjunction with your Application for Insurance License, and an inspection report.

The Wyoming Insurance Department has contracted with Experior Assessments TM, LLC (Experior) to conduct its examination program. Experior provides computerized examinations through a multistate network of testing centers. All questions and requests for information about examinations should be directed to:

You may mail the completed Examination Registration Form with applicable fee to Experior, and it will be processed within 48 hours from the time it is received. You may also register for and schedule your examination with one phone call. This is an expedited process that requires an additional fee of $5. Please have your Examination Registration form available before you call. You may fax your completed Examination Registration form to Experior. This is also an expedited registration process that requires the additional fee of $5. Allow 24 hours to process and you may then schedule your examination by calling 8008643946.

Each applicant for licensing as an agent, solicitor, consultant, surplus lines broker, adjuster or funeral service contractor must pass an examination before becoming licensed by the Insurance Department.

Examination requirements are waived for applicants who were licensed in Wyoming within the last 12 months under the same type of license, other than a temporary license. Is There A Continuing Education Requirement?

All Wyoming agents, brokers, solicitors, adjusters, service representatives and consultants must complete 10 hours of continuing education annually. No more than five hours may be completed through an insurersponsored course. These requirements are waived for licenseholders in Credit Life and Credit Disability, and Funeral Service Contracts lines of insurance.

Prepare for the prelicensing examination

What Are The Licensing Requirements In Wyoming?

Wyoming residents desiring any type of insurance license must be:

18 years of age;
a resident of Wyoming for at least 60 days; and competent, trustworthy, financially responsible and of good reputation.

In addition:

agents must be appointed by authorized insurers or sponsored by licensed corporations or firms;
solicitors must be regularly employed by licensed resident agents or brokers as fulltime employees;
surplus lines brokers must be licensed resident general lines agents.

What Types Of Licenses Can Be Granted In Wyoming?

The Insurance Department grants the following types of licenses. Each license issued by the Department is valid only for the line of authority named on the license.

An agent is any individual, firm or corporation appointed by an insurer to solicit applications for insurance or annuities or to negotiate insurance or annuities on its behalf.

A solicitor is an individual employed by an agent or broker to solicit applications for insurance (other than life or disability insurance) as a representative of that agent or broker.

A broker is a resident individual, firm or corporation organized under the laws of the state of Wyoming who not being an agent of the insurer, as an independent contractor and on behalf of the insured, for compensation or fee solicits, negotiates, or procures insurance or the renewal or continuance thereof for insureds or prospective insureds, other than himself/herself.

An adjuster is any individual who, for compensation as an independent contractor, or as the employee of an independent contractor, or as a salaried employee of an insurer, or for fee or commission, on behalf of the insurer investigates and negotiates settlement of claims arising under insurance contracts.

A consultant is any individual who, for a fee, engages in a business of offering to another person any advice, counsel, opinion or service with respect to insurance needs or risks, or concerning the benefits, coverages or provisions under any policy of insurance that could be issued in the state, or involving the advantages or disadvantages of any such policy of insurance, or formal plan of managing pure risk, and is not compensated by an insurer, agent or broker for the advice given.

A service representative is any individual employed by an insurer or managing general agent to work with agents in soliciting, negotiating and carrying out insurance for the general agent.
