Yes, the prelicensing requirements are not required for the general, life, health, or the lifehealth combination lines, but you must be a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU). These individuals are also exempt from having to take the regular exams for these lines, but must take the exam that covers the state laws and regulations.

I Am A Resident Of Oregon, And I Would Like To Know The Procedures For Obtaining An Insurance Agents License?

Below, you will find a thumbnail procedure for obtaining a resident insurance license:

1) Contact Oregon Insurance Department and request the Oregon Licensing Information Bulletin;

2) complete prelicensing educational requirements;

3) utilize the appropriate study materials  guided by the Oregon Insurance Outline that is part of the Information Bulletin;

4) mail your completed application, required materials, and fees to the Oregon Insurance Division;

5) upon receiving your approval to take the exam, you must schedule your own examination; you have six months to successfully complete the exam.

6) upon passing the exam, you receive your license within about ten days.

In addition: you must be contracted with an insurer, firm, or corporation in order to conduct any insurance transactions.

You must also have the insurance agency or corporation file a Notice of Affiliation (insurance agency) or a Notice of Appointment (insurance company) within thirty days.

The State of Oregon provides a more specific outline (Oregon Licensing Information Bulletin) with all the little details that you may need. The Bulletin and any other information can be obtained from the State of Oregon by calling or writing to:

Salem, OR 973013883

I Am Interested In Moving To Oregon And Continuing With My Work As An Insurance Broker. Will My Credentials From Here Be Accepted In Oregon?

As long as you come from a state where Oregon has agreed to maintain licensing reciprocity, your credentials will be accepted toward meeting your prelicensing educational and examination requirements but only as an insurance agent. Unfortunately, you will not be able to work as an insurance broker because Oregon does not permit insurance brokering. In Oregon you can only work as a representative of an insurer (an agent) even when you are licensed to work as a broker in another state.

All nonresident agents, adjusters, or consultants must provide an original letter of certification from your state insurance department that confirms your current valid license. Be sure and deliver this letter to the Oregon Insurance Division within 90 days of the date it was written.

In addition, nonresident licenses are not valid once you change your state of residence!
