How Do I Obtain A Current Certification Letter?

Resident agents and agencies needing current proof of licensing in Indiana for purposes of nonresident licensing in other states or for purposes of securing appointments with insurers are strongly advised to request a Certification, rather than a duplicate license. A Certification provides current license status, current continuing education compliance status, a statement of "good standing" and other information not provided on a duplicate license. Insurers who require prospective agents to provide proof of licensing as part of the appointment process are also strongly urged, for the same reasons, to require the prospective agent to provide a Certification rather than a copy of his or her license or a duplicate license. To request a Certification, complete and send to the state a completed Service Request Form .

How Do I Obtain An Insurance License In Indiana?

The Indiana Department of Insurance is empowered by Title 27, Article 1, of the Indiana Code to qualify those who wish to operate as insurance agents, surplus lines agents, insurance consultants and limited insurance representatives in Indiana. The legislature may make changes annually to these laws, and administrative procedures may be changed at any time. Licensees are expected to be aware of changes in the law that affect their occupational practice.
Some licenses require successful completion of a prescribed study course and an examination, or an examination only, before an application for licensure may be submitted to the Department. Other licenses have no prelicensing study course or examination requirements before application. While prelicensing education should help you pass the examination, it may not cover all of the material that will be in the test.
After you fulfill prelicensing study course and examination requirements (if necessary), you may submit your application for licensure to the Department. The Department will review your application materials, and if your application is approved, the Department will send you a license and you may begin to solicit insurance of the type for which you have received a license. If your application is denied, you will be notified in writing as to the reason for such denial. You may not receive or accept, directly or indirectly, any commission or other valuable consideration unless you were properly licensed at the time of the transaction out of which arose the right to such commission or other valuable consideration and you are a duly appointed agent of the insurer at the time that such insurer pays such commission or other valuable consideration.

Indiana's Continuing Education (CE) Law became effective July 31, 1992. The law places the responsibility for the creation and administration of a CE program in the hands of the Indiana Insurance Commissioner and the Insurance Agents Education Advisory Council which is appointed by the Governor. The Department of Insurance Agent's Licensing Division is responsible for the administration of the CE program. Questions regarding CE compliance should be directed to the Department at 3172325858. Insurance agents holding the license types listed below are responsible for completing the required number of CE hours and must comply with the education requirement two years from date of license issuance.
What Is The Question Format?

The questions that will appear on your licensing examination are multiplechoice and give you four options from which to choose your answer. The examination will contain questions with three different multiplechoice formats.
Your exam may include up to five additional questions that will not be scored. These are used to gather statistical information on the questions before they are added to the actual examination for your state. These questions, distributed throughout the exam, WILL NOT:

be counted for or against you in your final examination score; OR
take any time away from your allotted testing time.

Your total percentage score is computed by dividing the number of questions you answered correctly by the total number of questions in the examination. A total score of 70 percent is required to pass. Exam results are transmitted electronically to the Department. Exam scores are confidential and will be revealed only to you and the Department. You may call or write to Experior to request a duplicate of your Score Report for a period of one year after you complete the examination. Any questions or comments you have about your examination should be directed to Experior.
