Am I Legally Responsible If My Dog Bites A Human Being?

Yes. If, without provocation, your dog bites another person in a place where they lawfully have the right to be, such as any public property or private property which they have been invited onto, you will be liable for damages to that person. You will be held liable in these situations regardless of whether your dog has a known history of violent behavior or not. Postal workers, and other state or government employees such as police officers will be considered to be lawfully on private property even if they have not been invited, as long as they are performing the duties of their government position.
