Children under the age of 16 (ages 14 and 15) cannot work before 7 a.m. or after 9 p.m., more than 40 hours a week or more than eight hours a day. Once they reach the age of 16, they cannot work beyond 11 p.m. on nights before school.
Federal law is more restrictive for children under the age of 16. During the school year, federal law restricts hours to no later than 7 p.m., no more than three hours a day and not more than 18 hours a week.
