What Happens After I File My Initial Claim?

Your claim is effective the date you first file for benefits. The department will send you a written decision (called a determination) telling you whether benefits are allowed or not. This determination is usually issued about 14 to 21 days after the day you file. If benefits are allowed on your claim, your check will usually be mailed on the same day as the written determination. If you requested direct deposit of your check to your bank account, the first check will be deposited the same day the determination allowing benefits is mailed.
