Why does my homeowner’s insurance policy contain Additional Living Expense (“ALE”) coverage?

If you are unable to use or live in your home while it is being repaired or rebuilt, ALE coverage will provide you with some extra benefits. For instance, ALE coverage can pay for the costs of furnishing a temporary residence, relocation expenses, and storage costs. ALE coverage, however, only covers expenses above and beyond your normal living expenses, and your insurance company will require that all claims must be supported by receipts and/or other documentation.
