Who Must Meet Prelicensing Education Requirements?

Each applicant who applies for a license as an insurance agent or broker shall furnish at the time of filing his or her application a certificate of evidence of satisfactory completion of a prelicensing course of instruction consisting of 40 hours. Every applicant for licensure shall take the appropriate license examination within one (1) year of completing a prelicensing course. Selfstudy courses will be approved for prelicensing and do not require a supervised examination.

Applicants will submit a certificate of completion of forty hours of prelicensing to Assessment Systems, Inc. (see information on ASI below) along with the license application and appropriate fee in order to take the District of Columbia Licensing Examination to become licensed in the District of Columbia as an insurance agent or broker.
