What If I Notify The Manufacturer But The Problem Still Exists At The End Of The First 18 Months?

The Lemon Law rights period will be extended.

Suggestions:
It is very important that you keep a written history of any problems with your new car and all repairs made. Keep copies of all repair orders and make sure the orders document the dates and specific problem for which the vehicle is being repaired.

  • Since the mileage you must pay for the use of the vehicle stops on the first date of notification to the manufacturer, its agent, or authorized dealer, it is to your benefit to report the problem in writing as soon as it has been identified.
  • When writing to the manufacturer, it is a good idea to send your correspondence by certified mail, return receipt requested, so you will have documented proof that your letter was received.
  • You and/or your attorney can get more specific information about Lemon Law cases from the Center for Auto Safety. They have several publications, including a Lemon Litigation Manual, which you may purchase. They may be reached at (202) 3287700.
