Is Animal Abuse A Crime?

Yes. Someone is guilty of animal abuse if the person intentionally injures, maims, poisons, disfigures, or destroys an animal owned by another person, in any manner. A person who commits animal abuse is guilty of an aggravated misdemeanor, and can be held liable to the owner of the animal for damages.
