Can I Be Forced To Wait For Coverage To Begin If I Am Sick When I Buy Individual Insurance?

Other than in NHIF, there are no limits on preexisting condition exclusion periods under individual health plans in New Hampshire. Coverage for preexisting conditions may be temporarily or permanently excluded. Also, individual plans may exclude conditions for which you ever got care or for which the insurer thought you should have sought care. This is called the prudent person rule. Finally, individual plans can also impose preexisting condition exclusion periods on pregnancy and on genetic information.
