What is the potential liability in a medical malpractice case in New Mexico?

New Mexico law provides a lot of certainty for medical malpractice defendants. Medical malpractice defendants are only responsible for a maximum of $200,000 in each medical malpractice proceeding. If there are multiple defendants then they are, together, responsible for $600,000 worth of damages. Damages over $600,000 are paid from the state’s Patient Compensation Fund.
