What is the potential liability in a medical malpractice case in Louisiana?

Louisiana medical providers face some certainty in the amount that they might potentially owe in a medical malpractice case. State law limits the amount a provider will have to pay to $100,000 in a given case with a per case limit of $500,000 for all defendants. Any damages awarded in excess of that amount may be paid through the Patient’s Compensation Fund.

The information on this page is meant to provide a general overview of the law. The laws in your state and/or city may deviate significantly from those described here. If you have specific questions related to your situation you should speak with a local attorney.
