What is the potential liability in a medical malpractice case in Colorado?

The potential liability for Colorado defendants in a medical malpractice case has been limited by the state legislature. According to state law, the maximum amount of money that a plaintiff can be awarded in most medical malpractice cases is one million dollars. Of the one million dollars no more than $300,000 may be awarded for noneconomic damages such as pain and suffering. In certain instances, the court may be authorized to increase these awards beyond the typical statutory limits.
