Maryland has chosen to impose a penalty for employers who do not report New Hires. The penalty consists of a fine of $25 dollars per newly hired employee who the employer has failed to report. If there is a conspiracy between the employer and employee not to report, the penalty may not exceed $500 per newly hired employee.
