What Documents and Supporting Information are Required to be Submitted with a Divorce Petition in Iowa?
A divorce petition must contain the required caption, be verified, and include: the name, birth date, address and county of residence of the petitioner; name the petitioner’s attorney; state the place and date of marriage; state the name, birth date, address and county of residence (if known) of the respondent; state the name and age of each minor child whose welfare may be affected by the divorce; state whether a separate dissolution of marriage or child support has been commenced or is pending anywhere else; identify existing child support orders; allege that the petition was filed in good faith; allege that there was a breakdown in the marriage relationship to the extent that legitimate objects of matrimony have been destroyed and there is no reasonable likelihood that the marriage can be preserved; set forth any application for temporary spousal or child support; set forth any application for permanent spousal or child support, child custody, disposition of property, or attorney’s fees; state whether a conciliator has been appointed; and establish residency. (Iowa Code 598.5)
