What Is Condemnation?

Condemnation is the legal process in which the government uses "eminent domain" to "take" private property for public uses such as to make way for a highway, use of the land for a school, etc. Condemnation includes a requirement that the government show a public need for the land, that there was an offer to purchase the land, and, if it is not possible to purchase the land, then the government can commence a condemnation suit.
