What Things Should I Consider In Choosing A Child Care Provider For My Child?
There are many things to consider when selecting a child care provider. The child care provider must have a valid license from the state required for that type of program. You should also inquire into the safety and cleanliness of the facility including whether the facility meets basic standards such as hot water and heat, cleaning products and chemicals are kept in safe places and out of reach of children, swimming pools are fenced or covered, fire extinguishers are appropriately accessible and fire alarms are in good working order, emergency plans are readily available and weapons or other hazardous equipment are appropriately stored in locked areas. You may also discuss the child care providers policies and procedures regarding toys, activities, learning materials, and schedules are in place during child care, what meals will be provided to your child, how many other children would be in child care with your child and the ages of those other children. You are also encouraged to inquire about what happens if a child is sick or injured during child care and whether a sick or injured child is allowed to attend child care. If you child takes prescribed medications, you may also want to check with the provider about any meeting any special medical requirements your child may have.
