What if my injuries only prevent me from working temporarily?

If an injury that occurs at work results in a temporary inability to perform the duties of your job, your employer’s workers’ compensation insurance carrier will cover your lost wages and medical bills relating to the injury during the time you are unable to work.  Most jurisdictions require a “waiting period” that ranges from 3 to 7 days, and upon expiration of that waiting period workers’ compensation insurance will begin covering your lost wages.  Most jurisdictions also set a period of time (usually longer than the “waiting period”), and if an injury that prevents you from working lasts as long as that period, workers’ compensation insurance will cover you expenses retroactively, including the days missed during the “waiting period.”
