I Want To Adopt A Pet From An Animal Shelter. Are There Any Restrictions?

Yes. Generally, you will only be allowed to adopt a pet that has been spayed or neutered. However, you will be allowed to adopt a pet that has not been spayed or neutered if you give a deposit to the animal shelter that you are adopting from that will be returned to you upon providing proof that the animal you are adopting has been spayed or neutered by a licensed veterinarian. Upon giving the shelter your deposit you will be given a blank certificate that will need to be signed by the licensed veterinarian who neuters or spays your animal. You will receive your deposit when you return the signed receipt to the shelter from which you are adopting. If you fail to have the pet you have adopted spayed or neutered you will forfeit your deposit and can even be fined by the county attorney.
