What Are My Rights When My Dog Is Impounded?

When a dog is running at large without a collar, officials may take and impound your dog. Once your dog is impounded, the agency has to send an impoundment notice to you, if they can determine that you are the owner. The notice will generally state that you need to pay for the impoundment, rabies vaccination, and pick up your dog. If you do not within seven days, then they may dispose of the dog according to the law.
