Nonprofit organizations organized and operated exclusively for religious, charitable, scientific, literary or educational purposes (those exempt under Section 501 [c] [3] of the Internal Revenue Code) and governmental entities may elect to discharge their obligations under the Unemployment Insurance Law by reimbursing benefits paid to their former employees and charged to their accounts in lieu of tax contributions.
