What Is The Pre-Licensing Education Requirement?
The course content provided by approved schools will include eight hours of study of the Principles of Insurance, General Wisconsin Insurance Laws, and Ethics. Once this eight hours is completed, it need not be repeated for each line. Twelve hours regarding Policies, Terms and Concepts, and linespecific insurance law must be completed for each major line. Therefore, a candidate applying for all four major lines would be required to complete a total of 56 hours of education prior to testing.
Upon successful completion of the education requirement, you will receive a Certificate of Prelicensing Education. This original document will be required at the test site as part of the application process.
Exemptions to the education requirement include those candidates applying for the limited lines of Auto, Title, Credit Life/Credit Accident and Health, and Managing General Agents. Candidates who have completed a twoyear Wisconsin vocational school degree in insurance, a fouryear college degree in business with an insurance emphasis are also exempt. Effective January 1, 1999, new residents applying for an original resident license who held a license within the previous 6 months as a resident insurance agent in another state for the same line(s) of authority will also be exempt. These candidates must submit the appropriate exemption certificate, official school transcript, or original Letter of Clearance (not more than 60 days old) at the examination site.
