What Are The Pre-Licensing Education Requirements?
Prelicensing education requirements are established to ensure a minimum level of knowledge about the products and services that agents offer to the public. In addition, license candidates must understand and comply with the statutes and rules affecting insurance. You must meet the following requirements before applying for a license.
Line(s) of Insurance Course Hours
Life .............................................................. 24

Your sponsoring insurance company can provide a current list of authorized prelicensing schools. Effective January 1, 2000, stateapproved prelicensing selfstudy courses may be used to fulfill classroom requirements. You may access a providers list at the Department's Web site at www.state.in.us/idoi.
A prelicensing education Certificate of Completion will be issued by your prelicensing school at the end of your course. The certificate is valid for six months. You must pass your exam and apply for your license during this sixmonth period. You must bring your original prelicensing Certificate of Completion or Department waiver letter to the testing center when you test. Altered certificates WILL NOT be accepted. In addition, candidates for the bail or recovery agent exams must present the Department's original Certificate of Eligibility in order to test.
