What Is Probation Before Judgment?

If you plead guilty or are found guilty after a trial, the judge can simply impose a penalty. In many cases, the judge also has the option of getting rid of the guilty finding while still giving you a penalty. Lawyers often call this "probation before judgment" or "PBJ". Under Maryland law a PBJ is not a criminal conviction. Because it is not a conviction, there are no points added to your license.
