Mediation is the act of a neutral third person intermediating between parties seeking to settle a dispute. Mediation is generally less formal and intimidating than a courtroom hearing and, unless agreed to by the parties, is not binding. It provides a way to work out differences and come to a compromise and agreement that hopefully satisfies both parties. Mediation is advantageous in divorce cases because it gives the parties personal control over the settlement and is less time consuming and expensive than court battles. For more information on the advantages of mediation, consult a qualified attorney.
