Attempted murder

Attempted murder is severely punishable under the U.S. Code. Additional penalties for this crime may be sentenced by the state. An attempt to commit murder can be punished by a sentence of imprisonment for up to twenty years and by a fine imposed by the court. Attempted manslaughter is punishable with up to three years in prison and fines imposed by the court.
