What Is The New Hire Law?

All employers are required to report newly hired and rehired employees to a state directory within 20 days of their hire date. New hire reporting speeds up the child support income withholding order process, expedites collection of child support from parents who change jobs frequently, and quickly locates alleged fathers/noncustodial parents to help in establishing paternity and child support orders.

The information on this page is meant to provide a general overview of the law. The laws in your state and/or city may deviate significantly from those described here. If you have specific questions related to your situation you should speak with a local attorney.
