What are the Residency and Filing Requirements for Divorce in Maine?

In Maine, a divorce proceeding may be brought in District Court if: the plaintiff has been a Maine resident, in good faith, for at least six months, the plaintiff is a Maine resident and the couple was married in Maine, the plaintiff is a Maine resident and the couple resided in Maine when the cause of divorce accrued, or the defendant is a Maine resident. (Maine Statutes Title 19-A Section 901)
