What are United States gun control laws?
There are federal and state gun control laws in the United States which regulate the sale, manufacture, possession and transport of firearms. Although each state has authority to enact their own gun control laws, both federal and state laws place restrictions on the ownership, use and the types of weapons which are legal. Also, cities, counties and municipalities may have their own restrictions on the use, possession and sale of firearms.
The information on this page is meant to provide a general overview of the law. The laws in your state and/or city may deviate significantly from those described here. If you have specific questions related to your situation you should speak with a local attorney.
