When do I need to reregister to vote, or to update my voter registration in the state of New York?

In the state of New York, you must update your address with the state Board of Elections when you move to a new address. It is particularly important to change your address no later than August 26th to vote in the primary election, and no later than October 14th to vote in the general election, because New York law requires that you live at your present address for at least thirty days prior to the election, and election officials must have time to update your address.

The information on this page is meant to provide a general overview of the law. The laws in your state and/or city may deviate significantly from those described here. If you have specific questions related to your situation you should speak with a local attorney.
