When do I need to reregister to vote, or to update my voter registration in the state of California?

In the state of California, you must reregister to vote whenever you move to a new permanent residence. However, you do not have to reregister if you have only moved to a temporary address. You must also reregister if you legally change your name, or if you decide to switch political parties. You do not have to reregister to vote if you did not vote in the last election.
