What Is A Demand Letter?

Once an attorney reviews your file and your file is opened, the attorney sends a demand letter to the debtor. The purpose of this initial letter is to put the debtor on notice that this account has been forwarded to an attorney. This letter also gives the debtor a final opportunity to settle the claim without litigation or to clear up any discrepancies in the amount due.

The information on this page is meant to provide a general overview of the law. The laws in your state and/or city may deviate significantly from those described here. If you have specific questions related to your situation you should speak with a local attorney.
